Nuveen Flagship Virginia Municipal Bond Fund Class A (FVATX) is an open-end mutual fund launched on March 27, 1986, and managed by Nuveen Fund Advisors, LLC — a wholly owned subsidiary of TIAA, one of the world's largest investment managers with over $1.4 trillion in assets under management. The fund seeks to deliver a high level of current income exempt from regular federal, Virginia state, and in some cases Virginia local income taxes, while preserving capital, by investing at least 80% of its net assets in investment-grade municipal bonds rated BBB/Baa or higher issued by Virginia state and local governments, healthcare facilities, transportation authorities, universities, and small business financing entities. Up to 20% of net assets may be allocated to below-investment-grade, high-yield municipal bonds, with the portfolio broadly diversified across municipal tax-exempt securities comprising approximately 99% of total assets. Class A shares carry a 4.20% front-end load, a net expense ratio of approximately 0.74–0.75%, and a minimum initial investment of $2,500, with total net assets of approximately $572 million as of recent data.
