Matthews Japan Fund Investor Class (MJFOX) is an open-end mutual fund managed by Matthews International Capital Management, LLC (formerly Matthews Asia), a San Francisco-based boutique investment manager founded in 1991 and focused on Asia and emerging markets. Launched on December 31, 1998, the fund seeks long-term capital appreciation by investing at least 80% of its net assets in common and preferred stocks of companies located in Japan, employing a high-conviction, unconstrained all-cap, bottom-up fundamental investment approach. The fund targets Japanese companies positioned to benefit from Asia's growth, including global industry leaders, companies leveraged to fast-growing consumer demand, and entrepreneurial firms providing innovative domestic solutions, with top holdings including Sony Group Corp., Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, and Tokio Marine Holdings. Currently managed by Shuntaro Takeuchi (since January 2019) and Donghoon Han (since April 2023), the Investor Class carries a gross expense ratio of 1.15%, a minimum initial investment of $2,500, and total net assets of approximately $756 million.
