Vanguard Energy Fund Investor Shares (VGENX) is an actively managed, non-diversified mutual fund launched in May 1984 and managed by G. Thomas Levering since January 2020, offering investors cost-effective exposure to energy and utilities companies both domestically and internationally. The fund invests at least 80% of its assets in common stocks of companies principally engaged in energy-related activities, including exploration, production, and transmission of energy or energy fuels, as well as component manufacturing, energy research, and conservation or pollution control, with a current portfolio split approximately between energy (~54%) and utilities (~43%). With approximately $6 billion in total assets, a low expense ratio of 0.45%, and top holdings including Exxon Mobil, Shell, Engie, Williams Companies, and Marathon Petroleum, the fund offers a diversified blend of domestic and international energy equities. Effective May 12, 2026, the fund will be renamed Vanguard Energy Opportunities Fund to reflect its evolving strategy toward the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, though its fundamental investment objectives and policies will remain unchanged.
